From TOA Global’s 2018 Road Show … “If you started a new business and could hire back all of your existing staff, which staff would you rehire?”This got me thinking very hard. There were absolutely some staff I would re-hire, and some staff I would not. This totally changed our business model to reduce staff here in Australia and hire two staff members based offshore in the Philippines. We haven’t looked back. This was one of the best business decisions we have made over the last few years.
From Receipt Bank Exchange 2019 … “My clients do it my way or the highway – I don’t give them choices – I tell them what best practice is”This made so much sense to me. Clients don’t really want to be given a choice, and if all of your clients use the same app stack you can maximize efficiency and increase margins. Our best practice is Xero, Receipt Bank, Shopify, and A2X. We bundle these apps and clients don’t need to worry about comparing multiple options.
From ALL of the Conferences and XeroCons I’ve attended over the last year … “Niche, and then Niche within that Niche”This totally changed our practice about a year ago. First of all we dis-engaged from clients that did not use Xero. Secondly, we disengaged from clients who used us for bookkeeping but not tax. Finally, all future clients will be eCommerce clients, specifically those who use Shopify and Neto.
From the 2019 TOA Global Road Show “What did you do last week that you should not have been doing and could have delegated to a junior?”This really hit home for me as I had just spend all of the previous weekend deleting approved invoices from Xero (about 1,000 of them). This made me realize we were ready to hire a third offshore resource who had capacity to jump on tasks quickly.
And …. the result? We have never been busier, with calls from qualified, converted eCommerce clients. We now request payment upfront from new clients prior to sessions. Clients are wait-listing six months into the future and we feel so confident advising on an app stack that we know inside out.
