From time to time, I get really grumpy with other accountants my clients work with. I had TWO such experiences today on MYOB consultations:
The first client is a small consultant. She sends her MYOB file off each quarter to have the BAS reviewed and lodged. On her debtors list, were three amounts “owing” to her dated 2010. Obviously these amounts are not going to be paid! It took me all of three minutes to clear these debtors out of her list and claim back the GST owing.
The second client is a mid size warehouse distributor. They pay their accountant a gob smacking amount every year to prepare month end reports, prepare and lodge BAS, and act as a business advisor. A one hour review of the balance sheet indicated all sorts of problems, with a failure to adjust the foreign currency exchange amount each month, fictitious balance sheet accounts, and the debtor balance really needed a review with old outstanding amounts.
Have I mentioned that I provide full accountancy services?? I think both of these clients really need to compare the price they pay for the service they receive. Too many accountants take their clients for granted and do not provide good service. It is much easier to keep a client than win a new one!!
